Angelina Jolie, born on June 4, 1975, is an American film actor and a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency. She has been cited as one of the world's most beautiful women. Jolie has received three Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and an Academy Award.

Angelina began absorbing the acting craft from her parents - her father is the Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight and her mother was Marcheline Bertrand, also an actress. While she was a teen she studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, at New York University and later joined the renowned Met Theatre Group in Los Angeles. She also took up a career in modelling and appeared in some music videos. Her professional movie career began in 1993, when she played her first leading role in the low-budget film Cyborg 2. Her first leading role in a major film was in Hackers. In the mid-1990s, Jolie appeared in various small films where she got good notices, winning a Golden Globe award and an Emmy nomination. Jolie's acclaim increased even further when she played the lead role in the HBO production Gia, which again garnered a Golden Globe award and another Emmy nomination, and she additionally earned a SAG Award. In that same year, Jolie’s performance in Girl, Interrupted propelled her to win the Golden Globe, the SAG Award and the Academy Award for best leading actress in a supporting role. Although highly regarded for her acting abilities, Jolie's films to date had often not appealed to a wide audience, but Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) made her an international superstar. The movie was a huge international success and launched her global reputation as a female action star, since then she has established herself as one of the best-known and highest-paid actresses in Hollywood. She has had her biggest commercial successes with the action-comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) and the animated film Kung Fu Panda (2008). She has also begun working on her new movie called Salt.  

Divorced from actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton, Jolie currently lives with actor Brad Pitt, in a relationship that has attracted worldwide media attention. Jolie and Pitt have three adopted children, Maddox, Pax, and Zahara, as well as three biological children, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne. Jolie has promoted humanitarian causes throughout the world, and is noted for her work with refugees through UNHCR.

Angelina Jolie is very important in the Media. Many magazines are able to make a lot of money by writing articles about her or by showing pictures of her. Although she has a lot of success as an actress, her personal life is what has made more ink to run on newspapers and magazines all over the world. Some things that generated headlines on many magazines and newspapers were Angelina Jolie’s relationship with her father, the rumour of having shared a shocking kiss with her brother, had bisexual interludes with a Calvin Klein model, wore a vial of ex-husband Billy Bob Thorton's blood around her neck, changed into an advocate for global humanitarian problems and many other things. Stories like these make her very important to the Media, because it’s with these stories that the Media make more money. She also appears in the Media because of being one of the world’s most beautiful women, having so many tattoos, having three adopted kids, being such a good actress and many other things.

Justify my choice

The reason why I chose to do my work about Angelina Jolie is because she is a great actress who has advocated for global humanitarian problems. She’s someone who is worried about all the refugees that live on this planet, who cares for them and has helped them in many different ways and that touched me. I simply adore her films and admire her for being a talented actress, humanitarian, and a great mother. She has been on field missions around the world and met with refugees and internally displaced persons in more than 20 countries. She has also used her public profile to promote humanitarian causes through the mass media. That is the main reason why I chose to do my work about her; I simply wanted to, in a certain way, thank her for the efforts that she has made to help the refugees.
